Situated on the coastal area adjacent to Thoothukudi, amidst the remnants of the Gandhamadana mountain or Santhanamalai (Sandal Mountain), this temple serves as a tribute to the spot where Murugan emerged triumphant over the demon Surapadman through his devout worship of his father, Shiva. Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple, Palani
Situated in the Dindigul District, atop the Palani hill known as 'Thiruaavinankudi', stands a sacred shrine dedicated to the revered deity 'Kulanthai Velayuthaswami'. Legend has it that this deity was worshipped by the goddess Lakshmi ('Thiru' in Tamil), who is associated with cows ('Aavinan' in Tamil), and the abode ('kudi' in Tamil). The Murugan temple, located on the summit of Palani hill, is where the main deity 'Dhandayuthapani' resides. In a state of meditation, he holds a staff ('danda') as his weapon ('ayudha') in his hands ('pani').
