Legned of Vinata in Hinduism

Daksha has a daughter named Vinata, who has an elder sister named Kadru. Both of them were wives of Kashyapa and took care of his needs. As a blessing, Kashyapa granted them each a boon. Kadru requested a thousand brave naga sons. While Vinata requested only two sons from Kashyapa. However, she wanted each of her sons to be stronger and more brilliant than Kadru's offspring. Kashyapa granted their wish, and after his wives became pregnant, he instructed them to care for the children before departing for his penance in the forest.

How Vinata became slave to her sister Kadru

Following the Samudra Manthana, Indra was gifted a horse named Uccaihshravas from the Ocean of Milk. A disagreement arose between Vinata and Kadru over the color of the horse's tail. Kadru claimed it was black, while Vinata believed it was white. They decided to observe the horse the next day and made a bet that the loser would become the winner's slave. The naga sons of Kadru held onto the horse's tail, making it appear black. As a result, Vinata lost the bet and became Kadru's slave.
