Temple Legend

According to legend, Lord Vishnu transformed himself into a wild boar and descended to Earth to defeat the demon Hirnayaksh, who was threatening to destroy the universe. Varaha defeated the demon and saved the Earth by lifting it on his tusks and restoring Bhudevi to her rightful place in the universe. The temple is a popular destination for visitors to Pushkar.

The Varaha Temple is unique since there are no other notable or significantly large temples dedicated to the Varaha form of Lord Vishnu anywhere else in the world. A visit to this temple is a truly insightful experience of the ancient Hindu scriptures of Vishnu Purana and Dashavatara Katha.
