The ancient Shri Dhanwantari Temple Parappur in Kerala is dedicated to Lord Dhanwatari, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This temple is located 3 kilometers away from Thrissur town in the east, specifically at Nellikunnu.
Parappur Sree Dhanwantari Kshetram, Nellikunnu, Thrissur
Only a handful of temples have Lord Dhanwantari with Amruta Kumbham as the presiding deity. The most prominent among them is the Shri Dhanwantari Temple Parappur. Other temples dedicated to Dhanwantari include Pulamanthole Dhanwantari Temple, Maruthorvattom Dhanwantari Temple, Nelluvai Dhanwanthari Temple, and Peringavu Dhanwanthari Temple.
Originally, the Shri Dhanwantari Temple Parappur served as the family temple for the Ashtavaidya family of Parappur Mooss, who worshipped Lord Dhanwantari as their 'Paradevatha'. Parappur Mooss was renowned for his ayurvedic treatments and served as the chief physician for the Cochin Royal Family. However, due to the lack of successors in the family, the Shri Dhanwantari Temple and its assets were eventually merged with the Ashtavaidya family of Thaikkatu Mooss.
Ashtamangalya Prasnam, which was conducted in the temple, revealed that it is an ancient temple that has been worshipped by Rishis (Sages) for centuries. In addition to the main deity, Lord Sastha, his wife Prabhavathy, and son Satyaka are worshipped with immense devotion.
Adjacent to the temple, there is a sacred pond called 'Kshetra Kulam'. Devotees from distant places visit this temple to seek the Lord's blessings for a speedy recovery from illnesses.
