Significance of Durga Ashtami - Maha Ashtami Festival

Durga Ashtami or Maha Ashtami is the eighth day of the Navratri festival celebrated by Hindus for worshipping Goddess Durga. In Eastern India, Durga Ashatmi is also one of the most auspicious days of the five days long Durga Puja Festival celebrated in the honor of Mother Goddess Durga.

Ashtami celebrates the triumph of good over evil to commemorate Maa Durga's victory over the buffalo demon Mahishasura on this day. Maa Mahagauri is worshipped by devotees, who pray to her to reduce suffering and provide them with wealth and prosperity. According to legend, one of Maa Durga’s avatars, Chamunda, appears on her forehead to eliminate the evil demons Chanda and Munda who aided Mahishasura in carrying out his nefarious plans. Devotees observe a day-long fast on this day to seek blessings of Goddess Durga. It is believed that one who performs Durga Ashtami Vrat with devotion is bestowed with good fortune, success, and happiness.

According to astrology, Ashtami and Navami Tithi of Chaitra Navratri are considered auspicious days to start any new work. These days are considered as Abuj Muhurta for starting anything new. If one worships on these days then they can get positive results soon and also get success in their works.Durgashtami is the eighth day of the Navratri or Durgotsav festival that is celebrated across different parts of India. This day is attributed to Goddess Shakti, an avatar of Durga who is symbolic of eternal power and the victory of 'good' over the 'evil'.Durga Ashtami, as the name suggests, is dedicated to Goddess Durga. 

Ashwin Shukla Ashtami Tithi will be from 09.53 pm on 21st October 2023 to 07.58 pm on 22nd October 2023. Kuldevi is worshiped by observing fast on this day.
