Patan Devi Temple or Maa Patneshwari Temple is one of the most sacred temples in Patna, Bihar. The temple is regarded as one of the 51 Siddha Shakti Pithas in India. The primary deity worshipped here is Goddess Sati. It is believed that the right thigh of Goddess Sati fell in Magadh and another body part Chowk areas. At these places, the Badi Patan Devi temple and the Chhoti Patan Devi temple were built. There are small image of goddesses seen in Bari Patan Devi Temple. They are Goddess Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswathy.
Bari Patan Devi Temple is facing the North, towards the Ganges river. The statues of the temple are attired in sarees. Devotees can go to the temple at any time of the day. The temple remains open from morning 06:00 am to 10:00 pm. Tuesday is a special day for the devotees and a large number of devotees visit the temple.
Chhoti Patan Devi Temple is situated in the Chowk area of Patna City. The Chhoti Patan Devi temple houses a host of intact and severed images of Lord Ganesh, Lord Vishnu and Lord Surya.
Temple Festivals
The main festival celebrated here is Durga Puja. A mela is also held near these temples at the time of Vijayadashmi, Saptami, Ashtami and Navami. During the mela a large crowd come to offer prayers at either of the two temples.
