Someswara Temple Bhimavaram Andhra Pradesh

Someswara Temple or Somarama Temple located at Bhimavaram in Andhra Pradesh is one of the five Pancharama Kshetras dedicated to god Shiva. The primary deity worshipped here as Someswara Swamy. The goddess of the temple is Goddess Sri Rajarajeswar Ammavaru. Inside the temple complex there are shrines of Srirama and Hanuman Swamy. The temple also houses the deity of Goddess Annapoorna with a baby near to Her holy feet.  

Uniqueness of Someswara Temple

One of the most special features of this temple is that the color of the Shivalingam will change its color regarding the lunar aspects. During full moon days, the color of the Shivalingam will be in white and during Amavasya, the color of the lingam will be shaded to black. The temple is one of the centrally protected monuments of national importance. 

The other deities present in the temple are Goddess Adilakshmi, Lord Kumara Swamy, Lord Surya, Lord Ganesha, Navagraha and Nandikeswar. The sacred Shivalingam at this temple is said to be installed by Lord Chandra and hence the temple got the name as Somarama Temple. The Pushkarani or temple tank of this temple is called as Soma Gundam Pushkarani.

The temple is open from 05:00 am to 11.00 am and 04:00 pm 08:00 pm. 

Temple Festivals

The major festivals celebrated here are Maha Shivaratri in the month of February/March and Saran Navarathri (Sarannavarathri) in the month of September/October.

The temple is well-connected by means of road, rail and air. There are many buses available from Vijayawada and Eluru to Bhimavara. The nearest railway station is Bhimavaram Railway Station. The nearest airports are Vijayawada Airport and Rajahmundry Airport.
