Lakshmi Devi Temple is a famous Hindu temple located at Doddagaddavalli in Hassan, Karnataka, India. The temple was built by the Hoysala Empire King Vishnuvardhana in 1114 C.E. The main shrine facing east has a 3-foot-tall image of Goddess Lakshmi. In the shrines facing north, south and west respectively are the images of Goddess Kali, Lord Vishnu, and Boothanatha Linga (the universal symbol of the god Shiva).
This is a very rare sculpture of Goddess Lakshmi in standing posture, while goddess Lakshmi is mostly found in sitting posture and holds Shankha, Chakra, Gadha, Hasta. To the right of the sanctum is Lord Boothanatheshwara, in the form of Shiva Linga. It is believed that devotees cannot worship the lord by laying down, as you have idols of Gods and Goddesses on all four directions and worshiping the lord by laying down.
There is a small opening at the back of the temple compound, which opens to the lake. The important sculptures present here are of Goddess Gajalakshmi, Lord Tandaveshwara and Lord Yoganarasimha on the doorway of the temple.
