Atikaya was the son of Ravana and Mandodari. He was the younger brother of Indrajit. Atikaya was extremely powerful. He was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva became pleased with his devotion and benevolently blessed Atikaya with the secrets of archery and divine weapons. By this, Atikaya achieved extraordinary skills and superiority. Laxmana used Brahmastrato slain Atikaya.
Atikaya and his brother Trishira, are believed to be incarnations of the demons Madhu and Kaitabha, who were killed by Vishnu at the creation of the world.
