Valliyoorkkavu Temple Mananthavady Wayanad Kerala

Valliyoorkkavu Temple is an ancient Hindu temple situated 3 km from Mananthavady in the hills of Valliyoorkkavu. The temple is situated in the tribal areas of Wayanad hills in Kerala, India. Goddess Bhagavathy or Goddess Durga is the primary deity worshipped here. The idol of Valliyoorkkavu Temple is believed to be self-manifested and is of great power.

The annual festival of the temple, Valliyoorkavu Festival is held in March which lasts for 14 days. The festival is a major event and thousands of people from all over take part attend in this biggest event. The festival is very important to the tribal people in Wayanad. The traditional ritual art of Kalamezhuthu is performed during all the nights of the festival season. A wide range of folk art forms are presented on the last day of the festive season and the dances are performed by the local tribals, using native percussion instruments.

This temple is well connected by road, rail and air. Valliyoorkkavu can be easily accessed from Mananthavady or Kalpetta. The Periya Ghat road connects Mananthavady to Kannur and Thalassery. The Thamarassery mountain road connects Kozhikode with Kalpetta. The Kuttiady mountain road connects Vadakara with Kalpetta and Mananthavady. The Palchuram Mountain Road connects Kannur and Iritty with Mananthavady. The road from Nilambur to Ooty is also connected to Wayanad through the village of Meppadi. 

The nearest railway station is Mysore Railway Station and the nearest airports are Kozhikode International Airport and Bangalore International Airport.
