Wallpaper of Bhishma Pitamah. In the epic Mahabharata, Bhishma is the eighth son of Kuru King Shantanu and granduncle of both Pandavas and Kauravas. Bhishmar is well known for his celibate pledge. He was an unparalleled archer and warrior of his time. He handed down the Vishnu Sahasranama to Yudhishthira when he was on his death bed of arrows in the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Bhishma’s father granted him the boon of Ichcha Mrityu or control over his own death; ie he could choose the time of his death, making him immortal till his chosen time of death. Other popular names of Bhishma are Devavrata, Bhishmar and Gangaputra.
