Katasraj Temple of Shiva Punjab Pakistan

The Katasraj Temple of Shiva is one of important Hindu temples in Pakistan. The temple is located in the Katas village of Punjab’s Chakwal district in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. A number of stories and legends are attached to the temple and it is till today considered a highly sacred pilgrimage spot for Hindus. The site comprises of a central temple and several small ones encompassing it. The temples date back even further than 900 years.

Architecture 

The site holds several Buddhist stupas, seven ancient temples, recent temples and even havelis. The square platforms found within the temple premises are a sight for sore eyes. The elevated height of the sub shrines gives birth to a series of cornices comprising of a small row of pillars. The temples had rooms of varied dimensions and Ramachandra mandir also had jharokas which are apparently damaged.

Renovation 

Over the years, the government of Pakistan has conducted many repairs and renovation to the temple. The murals on the walls have been restored to a certain level and the pond has been cleared of garbage. The government had also made provision for the import of idols from various Indian temples to improve the look and appeal of the temple in Pakistan.

How to reach

Reaching the temple is a little difficult, due to the unavailability of proper direct modes of transportation. Located at a distance of 40 km from the Chakwal district, the temples can be reached by road by taking the M2 motorway found at the Kallar Kahar interchange. The road leading to Choa Sadan will have transportation available through which you can reach at the temple site.
