Mandavi was the wife of Bharata, the second brother of the Lord Rama in the Hindu epic Ramayana. She was the daughter of Kushadhwaja who was a younger brother of Janaka, the King of Mithila. Mandavi is hence the cousin of Sita Devi, the consort of Lord Sree Ram.
Mandavi always stood by Bharata or Bharat. When her husband constructed an ashram at Nandi Grama and remained there, worshipping the Lotus Feet of Shri Ram, Mandavi also spent her time praying to Sree Rama. She led a ‘Vanaprastha’ like life serving mothers Kausalya, Sumitra and Kaikeyi.
Taksha and Pushkal are the two sons of Mandavi and Bharata. Shrutakirti or Shrutkeerti is the sister of Mandavi and is married to Shatrughna.
