6 Brothers of King Ravana in Ramayana

Six brothers of King Ravana. Rakshasa Ravana, the demon king of Lanka, is the main antagonist in the epic Ramayana of Hindus. Ravana is depicted as having ten heads and is great scholar knowledge of the six Shastras and the four Vedas. Ravana was the son of Vishrava and his wife Kaikesi.

1) Kubera the Lord of wealth and Lord of North direction is a half-brother of Ravana. Kuberan was the son of Vishrava but his mother was Ilavida (Vishrava’s first wife.

2) Vibhishana or Bibhishan was the younger brother of Ravana. He ruled Lanka after the death of his brother. Unlike Ravana, Vibhishana was a great devotee of Rama and advised his brother to uphold Dharma and return the kidnapped Sita Devi.

3) Kumbhakarna, one of the brothers of Ravana, was an interesting character in epic Ramayana. He mistakenly got a boon from Brahma to sleep for six months and awake for the rest six months in a year. Kumbhakarna also tried to persuade Ravana to return Seeta to Rama. But Ravana didn’t agree; hence as a duty of being a brother he fought on side with Ravana in the battlefield.

4) Khara (also spelled Karan) was a younger brother of Ravana. He was the ruler of Danda Kingdom, with Janasthan as the capital. In the epic, Rakshasa Khara attached Rama after Shurpanakha's humiliation.

5) Dushana was the viceroy of Khara, who ruled the Janasthan.

6) Ahiravan or Mahiravan was the king of Pathala, the underworld. He was called by Ravana during the battle for help when Indrajit was killed.
