Sankaranarayana Swamy Temple in Sankarankovil is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Sankara Narayanan. The temple is situated about 56 km from Thirunelveli City and 33 km from Rajapalayam in Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu, India.
This 1000 to 2000 years old temple’s Moolavar (primary deity) is Sankaralingam. The ‘lingam’ enshrined in the temple was found during the unearthed from a ‘puttru' (small dune or snake pit or Ant Hill) and was consecrated as the ‘Sankaralingam' deity in the temple. The deity is also known as Vanmeeganadhar (ant hill in Tamil is known as Vanmeekam) and Sankara Linga Swamy. The goddess of the temple is Arulmigu Gomathi Amman. The city in ancient days was known as Sankaranayinarkovil.

Sankara Narayana Temple features a magnificent 9 tier Rajagopuram. The temple depicts the concept of Hari (Vishnu) and Hara (Shiva) being one God. At the entrance of the temple can the Adhikara Nandhi with His consort Suyajadevi. Lord Ganesha is worshiped here as Anugnai Vinayaka. The Puthu Maan or ant hill sand is offered as Prasad for the devotees. It is believed that consuming a pinch of the sand Prasad will help to cure a lot of diseases. Another popular belief is that the temple tank Naagasunai have been dug by the serpent kings named Paduman and Sangam. Taking a holy dip in the water is considered auspicious.

Adi Thabasu Festival is the important festival celebrated in the temple during the Tamil month of Aadi (July - August). The Chitthirai Brahmmotsavam Festival in celebrated during April – May. Sankarankovil is situated between Rajapalayam and Thirunelveli road and is well connected by transport bus services from major towns.Sankarankovil Railway Station (SNKL) lies on the Chennai Egmore –Sengottai railway line. Kovilpatti Railway Station (CVP) around 30 km from the temple is another nearest major railhead.
Madurai Airport (IXM) and Trivandrum International Airport (TRV) are the nearest flight access points.
