Gorakhnath Jayanti is believed to be the day when Guru Gorakhnath appeared on earth. It is observed on the Purnima day in Vaishakh month as per traditional Hindu calendar.
Guru Gorakhnath Jayanti also known as Gorakshya Nath is the most important Guru of the Nath Sampradaya. He is believed to be the Yoga power of Lord Shiva. He is the teacher of Yoga - the reunification of the soul and the super soul. The name "Gorakshya" means "World Protector". The world "Go" refers to Cow or the Universe and the meaning of "Rakshya" is to "Protect".
