Chettikulangara Devi Temple Kerala

Chettikulangara Devi Temple is one of the main Goddess Bhagavathy temples in Kerala, India. The temple is located at Chettikulangara, 4 km from Mavelikkara on Kayamkulam - Thiruvalla Highway in Alappuzha district. The unique feature of the temple is that Bhagavati is worshiped as Goddess Maha Saraswathi in the morning, Goddess Maha Lakshmi at noon and Goddess Bhadrakali or Durga in the evening. Chettikulangara Temple is believed to be more than 1200 years old.

Chettikulangara Bharani, is the annual festival at the Chettikulangara Bhagavathi Temple, is famous for the spectacular event called Kettukazhcha and Kuthiyottam. Kettukazhcha displays brightly decorated structures of six temple cars known as ‘Kuthira’ (Horses), five Theru’ (Chariots) and icons of Bhima and Lord Hanuman. This year Kumbha Bharani Festival is on 7th March 2022.

There is a small temple for Moolasthanam (primary abode). Other sub deities worshiped in the temple premises are Lord Ganapati, Nagaraja, Yakshini, Balakan, Muhurthi, Naga Yakshi, Thevara Moorthy, Kannamballi Bhagavathi, and Rakshas. The temple has a Nagarkavu, a small forest which houses the serpent gods.

Other important temple festivals include Parayeduppu, Ethirelpu Ulsavam, and Aswathy Ulsavam.

Mavelikara Railway Station is just 5 km from Chettikulangara temple. Thiruvananthapuram International Airport (113 km) and Nedumbassery Airport (120 km) are the nearest airports to reach temple.
