Rajarani Temple Bhubaneswar Orissa

Rajarani Temple is the crowning glory of Bhubaneswar, the state capital of Orissa, India. Raja Rani Temple is believed to have constructed in the 11th century by means of red and gold sand stones. Since the local name of this stone was Rajarani, the temple also came to know by that name.

Earlier the deity of Rajarani Temple was Lord Shiva and during that period the name was Indreswara Temple. But currently the shrine here has no deity and hence not considered for worshipping. The temple was constructed on a stage and its porch in a pyramidal structure. At the base of the  Rajarani Temple surrounding the porch, there are eight wonderful sculptors projecting to eight different directions. These carvings represent Indra, Lord Agni, Yama, Nirriti, Varuna, Vayu, Kubera and Lord Siva.

This traditional monument is the suitable example of the realization of style and beauty of that time. The sculptural architecture which displayed on the temple tower having a height of 59 feet is really very spectacular. Some of the carvings on the tower are women performing Odyssey dance, women holding children, women with mirror and women with birds. The Rajarani Temple in Bhubaneswar is surrounded by a lovely flowering garden which renders rewarding experiences to tourists of all ages.
