Elephanta Caves Pictures in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The Elephanta Caves are a group of ancient cave temples situated on the Elephanta Island or Gharapuri, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The Caves of Elephanta is situated around 10 km to the east of Mumbai city, around an hour long ferry ride from the city. This group of Hindu caves features rock cut stone sculptures dating back to 5th and 8th centuries.
