Vilakku Kettu or Vilakkukettu is a main ritual held during the Attukal Pongala Festival at the Attukal Devi Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Vilakku Kettu is a kind of offering done by Hindu devotees. Apart from Kerala, the ritual is also popular in Tamilnadu.
Vilakku Kettu are huge structures, which looks similar to miniature temple models. These colourful structures are decorated with garlands, shining colour papers, plantain leaf-stalks, and tender coconut frond. Small idols or statures of Goddess are placed inside the structure.
Vilakku Kettu are offered by devotees and the structures will be taken in a great procession with Chenda Melam to Attukal Bhagavathy Temple.
This year Attukal Pongala Festival is on 17 February 2022, Thursday.
