Significance of Mahalakshmi Vrat

Mahalakshmi Vrat is an important pooja performed for 16 consecutive days to appease Goddess Lakshmi. The pooja usually starts from the eighth day of the Shukla Paksha in Bhadrapada month and ends on Krishna Paksha Ashtami of the Hindu month of Ashwin.

Mythological Significance of Mahalakshmi Vrat Pooja

Bhavishya Purana (one of the eighteen major Hindu Puranas) describes the legend and the significance of Mahalakshmi Puja. A discussion between Yudhishtira (the eldest of the Pandavas) and Lord Krishna clearly explains it. Yudhishtira asked Lord Krishna to point out a vratha to be observed through which he can get back everything that was lost during the gambling games with Kauravas.

Subsequently, Mahalaxmi Vrata was stated by Krishna to Yudhistira. He said that this is the only vrata to seek the blessings of the Goddess who can provide the performer with wealth, health, children, family and prosperity.
