Thiruchuli Bhoominathar Temple Virudhunagar

Thiruchuli Bhoominathar Temple is an important Shiva temple located near Manamadurai in Virudhunagar District of Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is regarded as the 12th of the Tevara Stalams in the Pandya region of Tamil Nadu. Tiruchuzhi, around 55 km south of Madurai, is known for being the birthplace of Sri Ramana Maharishi. Lord Shiva is worshiped here as Bhoominathar and Ambal is known as Thunaimalai Amman or Tunaimaalainayaki. Lord Surya worshipped the Dinakareswara Lingam at Thiruchuzhial. Thirumeninathar is the festival deity.

Thiruchuli Bhuminatha Swamy Temple was earlier maintained by the rulers of Ramanathapuram. Bhoominathaswamy Temple consists of many shrines and theerthams and is spread over an area of almost 45,000 square feet. Pralaya Vitankar and Palani Andavar are important sub-deities worshiped in the temple. Shaivite Nayanar Sundaramoorthy and Sekkilar had sung hymns on Lord Bhoominathar and Goddess Thunaimalai. Thevaram Pathigam poem was composed by Sundarar at Thiruchuzhial Temple.

Temple Festivals

Thiruchuzhial Temple Bhrammotsavam is celebrated every year on the month of Panguni. Amman Tapas Utsavam is conducted for 10 days in the Tamil month Aadi. It is believed that Goddess Parvati meditated here and proposed Lord Shiva for marriage. The festival is in memory of this holy event. Palani Andavar festival in the month of Thai is another important event.

How to Reach

Aruppukottai is the nearest town to reach the temple, around 15 km away. Thiruchuli Railway Station is on the Manamadurai Virudunagar railway line.
