Taraknath Temple Tarakeswar West Bengal

Taraknath Temple is a famous hindu shrine located in the town of Tarakeswar in Hooghly district of West Bengal, India. The temple enshrines a Shayambhu linga of Lord Shiva. The temple is believed to be constructed in 1729 AD by Raja Bharamalla.

Taraknath Mandir is built in an ‘Atchala’ structure of Bengal temple architecture with a ‘natmandir’ in front. The temple features four roofs above the sanctum sanctorum and extended galleries for the congregation of the devotees. Dudhpukur tank, located north of the temple, is believed to fulfill the prayers of those taking a dip in it. The temple is also claimed to be one of the Jyothirlinga shrines of Mahadev.

Worship and Festivals

Mondays are considered auspicious to pray Taraknath. Thousands of devotees visit the temple during Maha Shivaratri in Phalgun month and Gajan Festival in Chaitra month.

Sravana month (July - August) is also considered auspicious for Shiva and special poojas and worships are held on all Mondays of the month.

Visitor Timings

The temple worship timings are from 6:00 am to 1.30 pm and evening 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
