Vindhyavasini Temple Vindhyachal Uttar Pradesh

Vindhyavasini Devi Temple is a famous goddess temple situated on the banks of the holy river Ganges in Vindhyachal, around 8 km from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh, India. Maa Vindhya Vasini Dhaam, also known as Vindhyachal Temple, one of the most revered Shaktipeeths of Goddess Sati. The word ‘Vindhyavasini’ means she who resides in Vidhyachal or Vindhya mountain range. She is depicted as a manifestation of Devi Amba or Goddess Durga. Vindhyavasini Temple is said to have been constructed by the Pandavas.

Deities

Unlike the other Shaktipeeths, devotees can have Darshan of Goddess Vindhyavasini in the form of idol which is situated in a very small sanctum called Garbagriha. The legs of Devi are seen resting on her mountain lion made up of silver. The figurine of the Goddess is 5 feet tall and is decked with gold ornaments, flowers and beautiful garland. The head of the idol is made up of black stone with big eyes which is made up of silver. Goddess Vindhyavasini is also known by the name Kajala Devi. The entire temple structure is built in stone that has rectangular shape. The inner sanctum for the temple is surrounded by a verandah.

Vindhyachal Temple is open from 4.00 AM to 10.30 AM. The aarti timings are below

Mangal Aarti – 4:00 am to 5:00 am
Raj Shree Aarti – 12:00 pm to 1:30pm
Choti Aarti – 7:15 pm to 8:30 pm
Badi Shayan Aarti – 9:30 pm to 10:30 pm

Festivals

Navratri in the Hindu months of Chaitra and Ashwin is a famous festival.  Kajali Competition is a folk genre that happens in the Hindu month of Jyeshtha.

Well connected by road, train and air, Varanasi is the nearest location which is 70 km away from Vindhyachal. The temple is just 1 km away from Vindhyachal Railway Station. Mirzapur Railway Station is the nearest major railhead.
