Hanuman Mandir in Connaught Place Delhi was built by Maharaja Jai Singh in 1724. The Delhi Hanuman Temple is said to be one of the five temples that existed during the days of Mahabharata. The temple enshrines a self manifest idol of Anjaneya. The idol in the temple worshipped is that of Bala Hanuman.
Temple Architecture
Entrance to the Hanuman Mandir Delhi is through a set of steps made in marble and coming to the foyer is through silver plated doors, where the different scenes from Ramayana have been engraved. The ceilings of the mandap denote the epic of Ramayana painted artistically. On the upper part of the wall of the building are the windows and there are paintings of Hanuman fixed in different directions, below which is the description of Sundarakand of Thulasidas. The Sanctum Sanctorum where the idol of Hanuman is placed is on the north wall with the deity facing the south. There are also images of Krishna and Radha and also of Sree Rama, Sita and Lakshmana placed to the right of idol of Hanuman.
Tourist Attractions
Large number of devotees comes to the temple on Tuesdays and Saturdays which is considered to be the auspicious day to visit Lord Hanuman. Hanuman Jayanti or the birthday celebration of Hanuman is celebrated with pomp and splendor. The place is considered to be most popular among women for putting Mehendi. Another most important feature of the temple is that it has been included in the ‘Guinness Book of World Records’ for its 24 hour chanting of “Sri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram.
Temple Timings
The Hanuman Temple at Connaught Place opens at 5.00 AM in the morning and closes at 1.00 PM. Evening darshan timings are from 3.00 pm to 10.00 PM at night except Tuesdays and Saturdays. On these days the temple remain open from 5.00 in the morning to 11.00 at night.
