Borra Caves in Andhra Pradesh, regarded as the deepest cave in India, is located about 90 km from Visakhapatnam. Locally known as Borra Guhalu, this spectacular tourist center covers an area of one square kilometer in the dense forest. This place is highly splendorous with the origin of the river Gosthani which flows through the naturally formed cave passages. The river base which is popularly known as Araku valley adds glory to this location. Borra Caves which are assumed to have millions of years age, locate at a height of 1450 feet above sea level with horizontal length 100 meters and vertical length 75 meters. Since these caves are in the midst of hill ranges and thick forest, they are located at marvelous landscapes containing different types of flora and fauna. These are the longest caves in India and have great significance regarding religious, archaeological and historical aspects. They were discovered by the famous British geologist William King in the year 1807.

Borra Caves are believed to have formed by the continuous flow of the river Gosthani through an area where limestone rocks are widely spread. In such a situation there are possibilities to react humic Acid in the flowing water with calcium carbonate in the lime stone rocks. Since these are aged process, the mineral constituents in the rocks might have dissolved forming cracks which later transformed into long cave passages through the course of the river flow. The different rock structures (stalagmites and stalactites) that can be seen inside the caves are enough to support this scientific assumption. Even though these caves are opened to visitors all the year round, the ideal time to view them is November and December because of the comfortable climatic conditions.

The entire journey takes covers around 100 km to reach the railway station near the caves named Borra Guhalu Railway station.
