Vajreshwari Temple Mumbai Maharashtra

Vajreshwari Devi Temple is a popular Hindu Goddess temple located at Vajreshwari town, around 75km away from Mumbai, in Thane district of Maharashtra, India. Vajreshwari Yogini Devi Mandir which looks like a fort is constructed on a hill top and has been standing as the magnificent historic symbol of Maratha culture. To climb up this elevation there are 52 steps which enable devotees to reach the temple effortlessly. The deity of this temple Goddess Vajreshwari is assumed to be the reincarnation of Goddess Parvathi. The city, previously known as Vadvali, was renamed as Vajreshwari in respect of the presiding deity of the temple.

The idol of Goddess Vajreshwari is very impressive and has been worshipping by many for centuries. It is believed that the goddess blesses her devotees to fulfill wishes if they worshipped with proper dedication. The idols of Goddess Renuka and Goddess Kalika can be seen on either side of the main idol. The 21 hot water springs near to the temple are popular for its curative properties. Hence, devotees used to take bath in these water sources for having a refreshing and soothing effect.

Mythological Importance

As per legends, this place is sanctified by the divine footsteps of Lord Rama and Lord Parasurama.  It is said that Lord Parasurama had performed a grand ritual at this location and the presence of volcanic ashes are considered as the residue of this ceremony.

Vajreshwari Temple Festivals

Navaratri Festival, the nine nights dedicated to worship of Hindu Goddesses, is celebrated with gaiety and enthusiasm. Lord Shiva worship is held with great religious importance during the month of Shravan.  Kojagiri Poornima, Diwali, Hanuman Jayanti, Datta Jayanti, Holi, and Godhadebuwa Jayanti are other important festivals held at Vajreshwari Temple.

How to Reach

Frequent bus services are available from Thane and Vasai Road Station. The Maharashtra State Transport provides special bus services during festival occasions and public holidays.

Thane Railway Station is the nearest railhead to reach Vajreshwari Temple. Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai (75 km) is the nearest airport to reach the pilgrimage site.
