Vigneshwar Temple is a famous Lord Ganesha shrine located on the banks of Kukdeswar River in the Ozar town of Maharashtra, India. Also known as Vighnahar Ganapati Temple, the temple is one of the eight Ashtavinayak temples of Ganesha in Maharashtra. Vigneshwar means the Lord of Obstacles and the Lord got this name by killing a demon called Vignasura. Vigneshwar Temple in Ozar is around 85 km from Pune off the Pune – Nashik highway. Ozar is 1363 km from Delhi Capital of India via NH 3 and 1395 KM via NH 3 and NH 48.
Vigneshwar Ashtavinayak Temple Features
Built in 1785 AD, the temple of Lord Vighneshwar faces east and is surrounded by stone wall. There are two Deep Malas, that is stone pillar for oil lamps, and two huge Dwar-Palaks, that is guards, at the entrance. The Sabhamandap has a marble statue of Mushika or Rat – the Vahana or vehicle of Lord Ganesha. The pinnacle is made of gold and colorful paintings decorate the walls of the temple. The swayambhu (self-manifested) idol of Vigneshwar seen inside the sanctum has its trunk turned towards left. In his sitting posture, the deity is decorated with rubies on his eyes, diamonds on the forehead and other precious stones on the naval. Bronze idols of Riddhi and Siddhi are seen on his both sides. It is able to see the Lenyadri Mountain where Lord Girijatmaj resides and the Shivneri fort, a historic fort, from the border of the temple.
History of Ozar Vigneshwar Ashtavinayak Temple
Legend says that the king of Hemavati, Shri Abhinandana, performed a great sacrifice. Indra thought that this sacrifice would take away his post and ordered a demon named Vignaasura to create obstacles. The demon started creating difficulties to the sages and the other people of the world. On the pleas of the sages, Ganapathi started to fight with the demon. Realizing his weakness, the demon Vignaasura surrendered to Ganesh, and agreed to stop his wrongdoings. As a result, he requested Ganesha to take his name and hence the Lord is called Vigneshwar. The mythology also has it that the sages installed an image of Vigneshwara at Ozar on Ganesh Chaturti and offered worship.
Festivals
Ganesh Chaturthi and Ganesh Jayanti are the major festivals celebrated at Vigneshwar Temple in Ozar, Maharashtra. The temple also celebrates a five day festival starting on Kartik Poornima when the Deepamalas are lit.
How to Reach Ozar Ganesh Temple
The temple is situated in the Junnar taluk of Pune District. Ozar is located on the Pune –Nashik Highway, about 12 km from Narayangaon. State transport buses ply from Junner and Shivaji Nagar (Pune) to Ozar. Jeep services are also available. Private buses and vehicles reach directly up to the temple as there is a bridge on the Kukdeswar River. Devotees can also travel via Mumbai – Thane – Kalyan – Bapsai – Sarlgoan – Otur – Lenyadri – Ozar and the distance is about 182 km.
