Shivanasamudra Falls near Mysore Karnataka

Shivanasamudra Falls or Shivasamundram Waterfalls is located 85 km east of Mysore in Mandya District of Karnataka, India. Shivasamundram which literally means “Lord Shiva’s Sea” is a much popular tourist destination in Karnataka offering a panoramic view of the falls hidden under its calmness. Shivanasamudra Falls is created by the sparkling blue waters of the Kaveri River (Cauvery River). River Kaveri splits into two through rocks and ravines and falls into a valley in two separate places creating two different waterfalls known as Gaganachukki Falls and Bharachukki Falls and re-unites downstream.

Best time to visit is during monsoon, from July to October.

How to Reach Shivasamundram Falls

Shivasamundram can be reached via Kanakapura road or by Bangalore – Mysore road. Tourist arriving via Kanakapura road shall drive around 120 km on the highway and the waterfalls are situated close to the highway. Those coming by Bangalore – Mysore road, needs to turn left at Maddur and drive for a short distance to reach the falls.

Nearby Tourist Attractions

Talakad, around 35 km from Shivanasamudra, is a famous Hindu pilgrimage center known for temples recovered from sand dunes. The famous Panchalinga temples of Lord Shiva include the Pathaleshwara temple, Maruleshwara temple, Arkeshwara temple, Vaidyanatheshwara temple and Mallikarjuna temple.

Mysore Palace, Chamundeshwari Temple in Chamundi Hills are other tourist attractions within a short drive from Sivanasamudra Falls.
