Nadi Astrology (Nadi Jyotisa or Nadi Jyothisham) is an ancient form of Hindu astrology carried out in Tamil Nadu, India. It is believed that the past, present and the future lives of all human beings were predicted by Hindu sages in these Nadi Shastra during early periods and written down as Nadi Grantha (Palm Leaf Manuscripts). The characteristics, family history, and the professions of numerous people are thereby predicted and protected.
History of Palm Leaf Astrology
The origin of Nadi Astrology leaves are traced back to about more then 2000 years. It is believed that the Seven Maharishis (7 sages), Agasthya (Agastya), Kaushik, Vyasar (Veda Vyasa), Brigu, Bohar, Vasishtha and Valmiki had forecasted the life of all people and then written on palm leaves by their spiritual powers. Each of the rishis or sages has a Nadi Grantha from which his knowledge is spread out. These Nadi Granthas include Shiva nadi, Agastya nadi, Brahma nadi, Brighu nadi, Vishwamitra nadi (Kaushika nadi) etc. Some of these nadis are not complete owing to the destruction of the leaves as well as loss of some parts during the British rule in India.
Formerly, these leaves were stored at Tanjore Saraswati Mahal of Tamilnadu and later some got destroyed during the British rule. However, some leaves were preserved by the astrologers in Vaitheeswarankoil (famous for the Pullirukkuvelur Navagraha Temple dedicated to Kuja or Sevvai) from Tanjore Saraswati Mahal Library. Some are not complete due to the loss or destruction of the leaves. Each of rishis has a Grantha from which his knowledge is dispersed.
Now Nadi Jyotisha or Nadi astrology future prediction has become a profession, trained by their ancestors to them to make predictions. Nadi astrologer usually follows the writings on just one of the great rishis mentioned above. Shiva nadi Jyothisha is currently the most popular one. An ancient Tamil script called Vatteluttu was used for writing on leaves.
Nadi Astrology Procedure
The practice of Nadi Astrology is different from other Hindu astrology system. As per Nadi Shastra principles, the Zodiac is divided into 12 equal sub-divisions of signs with equal subdivisions of the 27 Nakshatras (stars). Further, these stars are subdivided into unequal Sub Lords. Nadi Jyotisa gives importance to the Sub lord who is stronger than the Nakshatra and in turn Nakshatra is stronger than the Planet.
The procedure of Nadi Jyotisha is that the Nadi astrologer asks for the thumb impression (right hand for males and left hand for females) of the individual. As the thumb lines are classified into 108 types, the Nadi astrologer searches his storehouse of leaves for the person’s thumb print. Though there may be a leaf corresponding to that particular person, obtaining that exact leaf is difficult and time consuming. After finding out a leaf, the astrologer reads a statement from the first leaf and if it confirms to that particular individual, he will read out the second statement to confirm its authenticity. And if it is not true, the astrologer selects the next leaf, ignoring the previous one. The procedure continues and the astrologer has to keep on searching leaf after leaf, bundle after bundle to locate that one leaf which matches with the details provided by the individual. The process may sometimes continue even for weeks or months.
On finding the exact leaf, the Nadi Jyotisha astrologer tells details about his future which is written in the leaf. The future is mentioned in separate kandams or chapters. Click Here to read the details of the each Kandams in Nadi Jyothisha.

ReplyDeleteMost nadi astrologers in kolkata are fraud. You have to visit the original location which is 160 kms off Chennai
DeleteYou have referred to Nadi Astrology principles.Where are these available. Please mail to an_rubera@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I recently made our first contact with NADI JOTHIDAM at Tambaram in Chennai. We are not superstitious; and not over-religious. We try to live righteously - that is all.
ReplyDeleteA mention by a friend to my wife and her insistence - and we found ourselves there - I was a mere skeptic at that point in time.
In another ten hours, I was dumbfounded when three or four different "READERS" read out palm leaf writings of all five members of our family with exact details - name, date of birth, rasi, nakshatram, etc and father's name, mother's name, wife/husband's name, number of chldren/siblings; past history etc. They could not have exchanged notes as everyone was too busy. But all their readings were perfectly interlinked.
How did someone - thousands of years ago - know that one male named so and so will be born to a male named so and so, and a female named so and so and that I will be married to a woman named so and so and will have this many male /female children and their present status ?
This is fantastic.
All the past matters were correctly told. We are looking forward to the future.
But , in the meantime, we are doing the mandatory pariharams.
This is no hoax. They do not ask leading questions to guess answers which we want. They are merely "READERS" reading the "shorthand" written on the palm leaves - for which they have spent five years in rigorous training and physical and mental and religious discipline.
This NADI JOTHIDAM is great. And I have seen people from far and wide coming there. - both from India and abroad.
K

DeleteAstrology is a science, purely mathematics based subject.Even without understanding the capacity of an astrologer, showing your chart to him will get a reply from him,but there is no surety of the findings made by him, whether it is correct or not.The Quality of the Astrologer is any one who studied from his preceptor in a very disciplined way and observe pure in his words and actions. Then comes daily doing prescribed poojas to the navagrahas, and giving reverence to his parents and elders will reflect in his astrological predictions. Any one who has taken as astrology as profession should never aim too much on the renuneration to the service he made.Poor and rich people will approach him for the remedies, the remedies prescribed should also be to the reach of the person concerned. All these things are my father told me about the astrology and astrologer about 3 or 4 years back. Now he is no more.He died at the age of ninety four with easwara smaranam only.I have full confidence in the observation of my father, because he live as a yogi till his death.
